Bridesmaid Dress Shopping: Bridal Salon vs. LA Fashion District

Bridesmaids. Bride Tribe. Bridal Party. BFFFL’s. Your bridesmaids are the girls that will be by your side throughout your whole wedding journey. They’re the girls you’ll be venting to about not being able to find the perfect shoes or who you call when you’re stressing about wedding favors. Some people think that a wedding revolves only around the couple but you can’t forget everyone who is part of the journey. And this day was all about my girls!

Alfred Angelo’s Bridal Salon

The first dress appointment of the day was at Alfred Angelo’s in Huntington Beach. Alfred Angelo’s is comparable to David’s Bridal in bridesmaid dress selection and color. They have a pretty big selection of bridesmaid dresses and have almost every single color you could want. The consultants at Alfred Angelo’s were amazing and super welcoming.

When we arrived at Alfred Angelo’s they advised us to choose one of the girls to be the model. Which meant one girl would be trying on all the dress styles and once we narrow it down then the rest would be able to try on the top dresses. We saw about 6-7 different dress styles and were able to narrow it down to one dress pretty fast. After we decided which one we loved, all the girls took turns trying on the dress to make sure it was flattering for everyone.Bridesmaid Dress Shopping - Chelsea de Castro

The Cost

Once the winning dress emerged, the real question had to be asked. How much is this going to cost???

Almost every single bridesmaid dress at this salon and most others easily range from $150 to $200+. Keep in mind the cost doesn’t account for alterations or accessories. Not to mention, dresses at bridal salons take about 2-3 months to order!

After we heard the numbers my mind was scrambling. I did not want my girls to pay that much for a dress they’ll probably never wear again. Luckily, my maid of honor has been in a few weddings and suggested we go to the LA Fashion District. She told us how much more affordable the dresses were there and they had a ton of choices. So, on a whim, we cancelled our second appointment at another bridal salon and drove from the OC to LA.

Los Angeles Fashion District: Mona Boutique

We arrived at the Los Angeles Fashion District and were in awe of the crazy amount of dress stores in this area. I knew right away that there had to be a dress here for my girls. The first few stores were wholesale sellers only but eventually found the individual retail stores. Most of the wholesale stores will have signs that say “Wholesale Only”, so just keep that in mind if you plan on looking for dresses at the fashion district.

We walked into a couple of stores and had our eye on a few dresses but they didn’t have the exact color we were looking for. Eventually we stumbled upon Mona Boutique which is located on the 3rd floor on the corner of 11th and Maple.

This is the view from Mona Boutique. You can see that the streets were alive with food, vendors, and tons of customers even on a rainy afternoon like this day was.

We Found It

Right off the bat, we saw the exact style of dress everyone wanted on one of the mannequins and asked if it came in my color. The owner checked her catalogue and informed us they did! YAY!

As soon as we got the green light from the owner that she had our color in stock, they all tried on the dress. Surprisingly, the dress was even better than the one at Alfred Angelo’s. It was way more flattering on my girls and they felt more confident in it too!

The Cost

We asked the oh so dreaded question again, “How much is this going to cost?”

And guess what? It was half the cost of the dresses at Alfred Angelo’s. The dress we choose came out to about $90. Hello! This was a no brainer.

We found a better and even more flattering dress at half the cost. And we didn’t have to wait 2-3 months to get them either.

After the girls got measured, we placed the order right then and there. The whole process was super easy and hassle free!

We Said Yes to the Bridesmaid Dresses

We said “Yes to the bridesmaid dress!” at Mona Boutique at the LA Fashion District. I can’t wait to see all my girls in their dresses on my wedding day. I’m so thankful that everyone came with an open mind and a great attitude. I seriously could not have asked for a better group of girls to be by my side on the biggest day of my life.

I hope you all enjoyed this post, until next time!

Love, Chelsea
