Formal Dress Shopping at the LA Fashion District: Mom Edition

One of the best places to shop for formal dresses in Southern California is at the LA Fashion District. The famous shopping center houses hundreds of retailers that specialize in formal wear, apparel, shoes, and accessories at a discounted price. The most well known shopping you’ll probably hear about is a place called Santee Alley. Santee Alley takes up 2 blocks of the 100 block Fashion District. It is one of the largest flea markets for apparel, shoes, handbags, and makeup. Just outside of Santee Alley is Santee Street. Here lies blocks of formal dress boutiques that’s away from the hustle and bustle of the crowded flea market. Santee Street is where we would be shopping for our mom’s wedding day dresses.

The first shop that was on our hit list was Noell. Their website looked amazing and seemed to have tons of gowns that our moms would love, but unfortunately they were closed. So instead we walked across the street and stumbled upon C’est La Vie.Formal Dress Shopping at LA Fashion District - Chelsea de Castro

The staff here was so helpful and nice. They really worked with you on the prices of the dresses. And since we were at the LA Fashion District, haggling was a common tactic used by customers and retailers. Most of the dresses we looked at ranged from $300-$600 after they applied a “special discount”.Formal Dress Shopping at LA Fashion District - Chelsea de Castro

Although the prices were on the higher side, the gowns we saw were absolutely gorgeous! I could picture every single one of them on Ms. America. Hell, I definitely had some dress envy when I saw the kinds of dresses they were trying on.Formal Dress Shopping at LA Fashion District - Chelsea de Castro

There was a wide range of colors, sizes, and styles at C’est La Vie. One of the great things about buying a gown at the Fashion District is that you don’t have to wait months to order it. You walk out of the store with your dress in hand that very same day. But the one catch is that almost all the gowns are non-returnable and non-refundable so you have to be 100% sure that you want it.Formal Dress Shopping at LA Fashion District - Chelsea de CastroFormal Dress Shopping at LA Fashion District - Chelsea de CastroFormal Dress Shopping at LA Fashion District - Chelsea de Castro

Our moms tried on two dresses of their choice and they both fell in love with the second dress they put on. But don’t worry, they didn’t buy the same dress! After discussing it they decided that they did not want to look any where else and they were sold! Our moms looked absolutely stunning in their gowns and I’m so excited to see them all done up on our wedding day.

Love At First Sight At The LA Fashion District

After our trip to the Fashion District, it’s safe to say our moms were ecstatic about saying “yes to the dress!” From the beginning, we told them that they should feel like queens at our wedding. We wanted them to pick out a gown that they can stand out in and be proud of. I’m beyond thrilled that both our moms found dresses that they feel confident, young, and special in. And it’s even sweeter that they experienced it together.

I hope you guys enjoyed coming along with us on another major milestone in our wedding planning journey and until next time!

Love, Chelsea
